- Consider bringing rewards for young children. Ice cream later. TicTacs, Smarties, etc are great choices.
- Try your best to bring your child to the session with a clean face. Do a quick inspection right before the session. Ban the boogers.
- Matte lip balm is a good idea in dry weather for both boys and girls.
- Wanna bring cupcakes? Balloons? Lollipops? Radio Flyer tricycle? Yes, please. Just let me know ahead of time.
- Most session last around one hour, give or take. I've found that kids are usually ready to wrap things up by then and I've got what I need.
- It's usually best to designate one adult, when there are many family members around, to engage the child and call his name, etc. A band of shouting adults is too much.
- At times, it may be best for me to get the child one on one. I may just take them a few steps away or around the corner. You'll be surprised by the expressions!
- Tickles are great way to bring genuine smiles.
- Sometimes it's the in-betweens that I'm hoping to capture. The look right after a giggle or a wiggle.
- Try your best to keep the mood light. But don't be afraid to take your child aside for a little reminder of the goal and pep talk. I've seen it all and consider it all normal. Don't be afraid your child is the only one acting up. It's all a part of childhood.
Great tips on having a good photo shoot - thanks Jenny! :)
